Groundhog Day or the NBA

Call me Punxsutawney Phil but I have the urge to do a little prognosticating about a certain Jazzman who has lived up to his potential absolutely horribly. That’s right, I speak of Calvin Andre Miles Jr. aka C.J. Miles. Imagine you were a basketball player who woke up at the beginning of the season, enjoyed the learning process, and progress throughout the season and then when the season’s clock hit 6:00 a.m. you woke up to a little “Sonny and Cher” music and the season was just beginning again. The story makes for a great movie but a pretty weak basketball career. Every year it’s the excact same thing. Great promise, and potential at the beginning of the season and a huge letdown to follow. And the Jazz just signed him to 15million this year. The dude is making the same as players such as, Tyrus Thomas, Willie Green, Fabricio Oberto, Daniel Gibson, and Delonte West. You see these guys’ stat lines and you have to feel a little bit cheated.

Anyway, back to my predictions. When I peek my head out this season I see a big dark shadow looming over his career. In fact, it’s the same shadow I saw last season, and the season before. Wait a minute, have these been different seasons or have they been all the same day?

Jazz fans, if you want to know what to look forward to this year with C.J. Miles, just look at the past two years and you’ll have seen it all. Just like Groundhog Day over and over again. As I recall, the man who was living that life got so frustrated that he committed suicide several days in a row. I’m not saying we do anything drastic, I’m just saying to be ready for some frustration because it’s well on its way.

This is why I have never became a 'true' Jazz fan. They have yet to prove themselves to me over the years. I can't fathom supporting a team that does well during the season and then can't face the pressure at the end. It happens time and time again! I'll believe it when I see it!

Lil Kim -

Your comments pain me greatly. Where's the joy in the journey? The rose pedals rather than thorns? Or the light at the end of the tunnel? I'll leave you, my dearest, with one of my favorite poems I just looked up.

It takes a little COURAGE, and a little self control.
And some grim DETERMINATION, If you want to reach the goal.
It takes a deal of STRIVING, and a FIRM and STERN-SET chin.
No matter what the BATTLE, If you really want to win.
There's NO EASY path to glory, There's no road to fame.
Life, however we may view it, Is no simple parlor game;
But it's prizes call for FIGHTING, For ENDURANCE and for GRIT;
For a rugged disposition and DON'T know when to QUIT.

I'll read this when feeling down & gloomy after a Jazz loss. Then I'll pick myself up, wipe away the tears, and look forward to the next challenge. Because for me you see, the joy is in the journey. And one day...one day...the Jazz WILL bring that trophy home!

Any for you Scuba..I sense a lack of hope?

Kim,
That is great that you recognize that you are not a "true" Jazz fan. A "true" Jazz fan requires faith and hope. I would love to see you become a "true" Jazz fan. It is not hard; all it takes is acceptance of failure, mental endurance and of course faith. Instead of having to see it to believe it, believe it and then you will see it. You also have one heck of a Jazz fan by your side. I encourage you to read over and over the wise words of your husband, he nailed it on the head.

As for Scuba, your conversion to become a "true" Jazz fan may be more difficult because you may already "think" you are a fan, but like Kim, your lack of faith is your downfall. Obviously the contract given to CJ Miles was done in faith- believing before seeing.

My advice for you is to accept that you are NOT a true Jazz fan which may be difficult, if you need some support and further counsel, I will be happy to sit one on one with you and explain in depth the process that I went through to become a "true" Jazz fan.

Happy trails to all, signed,

I like Kim am not a true Jazz fan either. I only enjoy watching during the playoffs not the other 50 billion games during the season. However, I will say this since they got rid of oh so reliable girachek and picked of the long haired phenomenon Krover I have seen quite an improvement in the playoffs. Now if we could only get past the flopper Tony Parker, the ugly argentine Ginobli(oh my finger hurts), and the complainer Duncan we just might get that trophy.

Oh my frieking goodness Hansen. Where do I begin? Calling me “not a true Jazz fan”. I knew you where good at the cutting remarks but I had no idea you had such ruthless and evil remarks in your repertoire. Why don’t you just tell me I’m adopted while you’re at it? Or even better; tell me I was aborted. That’s about the depth of the wound.

Obviously, you are misunderstanding where I am coming from. I love the Jazz so much that I care about every move they make, both good and bad. When the let Hart go this summer and picked up Knight I was excited because I didn’t think Hart was a good enough player for the organization. On the contrarty when the Jazz matched the offer the Thunda gave CJ, I was hurt and disappointed because I know that move will leave someone out in the cold next year. And of all the players that are currently on the Jazz, I like CJ the very least and he’s gonna be the one sticking around. Because CJ is here, Korver could be packing up, or AK, or Memo, or The Booze, or Milsap. You can’t pay a scrub 15 million and expect that action to not have consequences. I predict either Korver, Boozer, or Milsap are packing up next summer.

I’m glad you said, “the contract given to CJ was done in faith believing before seeing.” That was the basis of my Groundhog Day analogy. This is not a rookie that we are taking a gamble on. This is CJ’s 4th year in the league and I don’t know if you saw Ronnie Brewer play last night but CJ has one more year on him and Brewer is light-years ahead of him in talent, maturity, strength, discipline, and hustle. The years of believing are over. I’ve seen therefore I believe that he’s exactly what I though he was. An overpaid Prima Donna Who wakes up each season as if the last never even happened.

Finally, some fruits of my fandom (for by the fruits you shall know them)
I almost named my daughter Sloan
I don’t care what time of year it is, I’m watching the Jazz. RMR, Preseason, Season, Postseason, and beyond.
I follow the stats, the rankings, the standings,
I know the Jazz Bear got enducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame last year
The lump in Larry Miller’s arm is really a hidden camera I implanted so I can see and hear what goes on in the locker room at halftime.
I watched the majority of the 04-05 season when we won 26 games just so that I could have this opportunity to look back and say that I was there through thick and thin.
And lastly, even though I like CJ the very least on this team. I firmly believe with all my heart that the Jazz have a chance at the title THIS YEAR! Look at our record last year and that was starting off 16-16 with stupid Gira.

My hopes are high, the potential is limitless, and the Jazz will bring home the gold just like USA did this summer. I just hope CJ doesn’t screw up too bad these next couple years.

Go Jazz!!
